Bio

Paula Valentin Rodriguez

Paula Valentín (Mexico, 2003), currently resides in Vancouver, BC and studies in Emily Carr University of Art + Design’s visual arts program. She is a visual artist with a focus on painting, who’s artistic practice has developed over time as memory based, with a focus on Mexican pre-colonial and contemporary culture of Mexico. Her work explores the cultural differences over time such as religion, identity and narration through symbolic elements, personal narratives, patterns and textures linked to Mexico. She has been part of various student-based exhibitions at Emily Carr in the neighbourhood gallery as well as showcased in various online artworks postings for the university, and most recently accepted in a group exhibition at the Britannia Art gallery for the latin collective, La Libélula Cooperative, based in Vancouver.

Paula has been active within teen and adult groups interested in learning art, as a teacher’s assistant, and is currently working towards entering the Bachelor of Education program at UBC, supporting other emerging artists through their journey.
